Baskerville’s Birmingham // Ben Waddington
Fri 9 Sep // 2pm
Meet at the Lord Nelson statue, St Martin’s Walk, Birmingham B5 4BU
SOLD OUT
John Baskerville is Birmingham’s lost hero. Through the 18th century, his innovations in art and industry put Birmingham on the typographic map, an influence which is still felt today. Yet his presence is barely noticeable in his home city, and his story largely untold. However, the clues are there if you know where to look. This two-hour guided tour takes in locations, art and artefacts associated with the city’s most eminent printer, type founder, paper maker, japanner, grave stone carver and free-thinker.

Ben is a Birmingham resident trained in Fine Art, later working in heritage culture and who more recently has been exploring the creative possibilities of the guided walk format. He is a co-director of Still Walking Festival.
